Welcome back to Autumn Term 2025!

We are excited to start this new term with you all. As always we hope to provide our children with more exciting challenges and adventures both inside and outside the classroom.

In our English lessons, we will begin by exploring the story "The Rhythm of the Rain" which is a stunning new non-fiction picture book from Greenaway medal-winner, Grahame Baker-Smith. From tiniest raindrop to deepest ocean, this breathtaking celebration of the water cycle captures the remarkable movement of water across the earth in all its majesty.

The children will complete two 'Big Writes': the first will be a setting narrative, and the second will be a leaflet to inform.

We will also have weekly spelling, punctuation, and grammar tests, along with handwriting practice every Friday, when new spellings will be set.

Reading is fundamental to education, and we encourage our pupils to read daily at home for at least five minutes. We believe that daily reading can significantly impact a child's academic achievements. Keeping a record of each reading session in the Home School Journal and bringing it to school daily will help your child track their progress.

In Mathematics this year we have adopted the ‘White Rose Maths’ scheme. The scheme has been meticulously designed by expert teachers, to reflect a commitment to excellence. The scheme will be taught from Reception to Year 6. White Rose Maths not only focuses on the mastery of numerical skills but also fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in young learners. Its resources, both in print and digital formats, offer diverse and engaging ways to bring maths lessons to life.

Homework will be set on Tuesdays and is due the following Monday. We strongly recommend that your child practices their times tables on Times Table Rockstars daily to improve their fluency and understanding. Additionally, there will be times table tests every Friday to help enhance their mental arithmetic abilities, which are essential for mathematical problem-solving.

In our wider curriculum subjects, we will start by exploring ‘What makes us human?’ in our Religious Education lessons. The children will interpret and use art to express beliefs about the soul and our inner selves.

In Geography, pupils will start by exploring ‘Who lives in Antarctica?’ followed by a History topic exploring ‘How have children’s lives changed.’

In Science, we will learn all about the ‘Human impact on the environment.’

In Art and Design, we will be looking developing our drawing skills and in Design and Technology we will be adapting recipes. In Computing we will be looking at Computing systems and networks as well as emailing.

In French, we will be focusing on ‘French Greetings’ using puppets.  In PHSCE our topic will be ‘Families and Relationships.’

We will enjoy our weekly Music lessons with Mr Kitcher each Wednesday morning.

We hope that these exciting topics will help our pupils develop their creative skills and continue to broaden their horizons.

We look forward to a fantastic term ahead!
