Welcome back to Summer Term 2025!

We are excited to start this new term with you. As the weather continues to get warmer and the days get a little longer, we hope to provide our children with more exciting challenges and adventures both inside and outside the classroom.

In our English lessons, we will begin by exploring the story "Into the Forest" by Anthony Browne where a shortcut through the forest to Grandma's house produces some eerie moments – and some oddly familiar characters – in a strikingly illustrated tale about facing fears.

The children will complete two 'Big Writes': the first will be a Lost narrative, and the second will be a newspaper report.

We will also have weekly spelling, punctuation, and grammar tests, along with handwriting practice every Friday, when new spellings will be set.

Reading is fundamental to education, and we encourage our pupils to read daily at home for at least five minutes. We believe that daily reading can significantly impact a child's academic achievements. Keeping a record of each reading session in the Home School Journal and bringing it to school daily will help your child track their progress.

Power Maths is now fully integrated into our curriculum, helping children develop fluency and deep understanding of concepts. We will continue to have weekly arithmetic tests every Monday, and their progress will be recorded in their Home School Journals.

Homework will be set on Tuesdays and is due the following Monday. We strongly recommend that your child practices their times tables on Times Table Rockstars daily to improve their fluency and understanding. Additionally, there will be times table tests every Friday to help enhance their mental arithmetic abilities, which are essential for mathematical problem-solving.

In our wider curriculum subjects, we will start by exploring a 'Spirited Arts Focus' linked to the theme of Diversity in our Religious Education lessons followed by a unit on what it is like to follow God.

In Geography, pupils will learn about Natural Resources, the children will be introduced pupils to natural resources: things that are naturally found in and on our planet, which are useful or have value. Pupils will learn how scarcity can create value in some resources, like diamonds or gold, whereas other things are vital for human survival, like fresh water. They will also begin to learn about how these resources are not evenly distributed around the world.

In Science, children will build electrical circuits and identify common appliances that run on electricity they will construct a simple series electrical circuit, identifying and naming its basic parts, including cells, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzers and will look at conductors and insulators. In the second half of term they will be looking at flowering plants and plant growth.

In Art and Design, we will be looking at ‘pre-historic art'.   In Computing, we will be looking at ‘audio production' and 'events and action'.

In French, we will be focusing on Fabulous French Food.  In PHSCE our topic will be ‘Health and Wellbeing’.

We will enjoy our weekly Music lessons with Mr Kitcher each Thursday.

We hope that these exciting topics will help our pupils develop their creative skills and continue to broaden their horizons.

We look forward to a fantastic term ahead!
