Welcome to the Spring Term!
We are excited to begin this new term with you and your children. Our goal is to provide engaging challenges and enriching experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
English
We will start by exploring Egyptology, a fascinating scrapbook-style journal of a lost expedition. This book is packed with novelties and recreations, such as a piece of mummy cloth, a hieroglyph booklet, and even a board game, alongside stunning artwork and intriguing facts about Ancient Egypt. It concludes with a magnificent surprise!
Children will complete two Big Writes:
- An Egyptian mystery narrative
- A secret diary entry
Weekly activities will include spelling, punctuation, and grammar practice, as well as handwriting sessions every Friday when new spellings will be introduced.
Reading is fundamental to learning. We encourage pupils to read at home daily for at least five minutes. Keeping a record in the Home School Journal and bringing it to school each day will help track progress and foster a love of reading.
Mathematics
This year, we are following the White Rose Maths scheme from Reception to Year 6. Designed by expert educators, this program promotes mastery of numerical skills while developing critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Its engaging resources, both print and digital bring maths to life for every learner.
Homework
Homework will be set on Tuesdays and due the following Monday. We strongly recommend daily practice of times tables using Times Table Rockstars to build fluency. Times table tests will take place every Friday to strengthen mental arithmetic skills essential for problem-solving.
Wider Curriculum
- Religious Education: What makes some texts sacred? Exploring how scriptures are used and valued.
- Geography: Are all continents the same?
- History: What was important to Ancient Egyptians?
- Science: Learning all about Sound.
- Art & Design: Exploring tone, texture, and proportion.
- Design & Technology: Creating Egyptian collars.
- Computing: Producing media video trailers.
- French: Playground games and numbers.
- PHSCE: Health and wellbeing.
- Music: Weekly lessons with Mr. Kitcher every Wednesday morning.
These topics aim to spark creativity and broaden horizons for all our pupils.
We look forward to an exciting and productive term ahead!
