Oak Class have a truly super term of learning ahead of them and we cannot wait to get started! In Literacy, we be exploring some beautiful texts through which we be developing our range of writing skills. These texts always remain ‘top secret’ until the last moment, as the mystery surrounding them is used to stimulate the children’s ideas. Using these texts as stimulus, the children will produce final pieces of writing in the style of: an explanation narrative; a formal written report and a cliffhanger (dum dum duuuum!!!)
In Maths this year, we will follow White Rose Maths which is based on a mastery approach to the teaching of mathematics designed to strengthen and deepen understanding. The children will begin by looking at number and place value, before moving on to the four operations and fractions.
In our wider curriculum work, we will begin the term by thinking about how we can stand up for what we believe in and learning more about Dharmic religions. In Personal, Social, Health Education the children will explore the theme of families and relationships which will enable the children to build strong emotional foundations for the future. In Art and Design this term, we will be learning about the power of photography and why and how it can be used. In Design and Technology, we will delve into the world of electrical devices and the functions they serve within modern living.
In Geography, we will be studying what life is like for people living in the Alps whilst in History, we will investigate what a census can tell us about local areas.
Our Science topic will focus on light and electricity and in Physical Education the children will be learning through team games and activities which will enhance their knowledge of a range of sports.
Please do have a look at our comprehensive curriculum page on our website for more information on what your child will be learning and when.
