It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to another fantastic term of learning experiences in Oak Class.
To find out more about who will be teaching Oak Class, please click on our 'Meet The Teaching Team' page on our school website.
Oak Class have a wonderful term of learning ahead of them. In English we be examining our quality texts through which we be developing our unique writing skills and strategies. These texts remain a closely guarded secret as the mystery surrounding them can stimulate the children’s imaginations and ideas. Using these texts as stimulus, the children will produce a final piece of writing in the style of a character narrative and a persuasive letter.
In maths, we will continue to follow our scheme: White Rose Maths which is based on a mastery approach to the teaching of mathematics designed to strengthen and deepen understanding. The children will begin by looking at fractions before moving on to: multiplication and division; decimals and percentages; perimeter and area and graphs and tables in year 5. In year 6, the children will be learning about: ratio and proportion; algebra; decimals; percentages and perimeter, area and volume.
In our wider curriculum work, we will begin the term by thinking about what some people believe may happen when we die- both in the spiritual and religious sense, whilst in PSHE, we will consider how we can contribute to our school community by developing and nurturing our relationships. We will them move onto Art and design where we will be exploring elements of art by examining how artist use their work to provoke and encourage discussion. In design and technology, we will delve into the world of cooking where children we be designing their own menus! before moving onto our computing topic which covers systems and networks and how they coexist to provide us with the facilities we use in our everyday lives.
In Geography, we will be exploring how energy is sourced and produced, whilst in History we will imagine what life was like for the ancient Greeks. Our science topic will focus on human growth and specifically how we grow and develop over time. Finally, in PE the children will be learning the rules of: dance, netball, hockey and our outdoor adventures will continue during our field fun sessions.
Please do have a look at our comprehensive Curriculum Page on the school website for more information on what your child will be learning and when.
